Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born into a musical family on the 9th of August, 1963. She was born in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel superstar Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singing star Dionne Warwick. As a young girl, Houston started performing professionally in her church's choir. She was a backing vocalist for Chaka Khosn's song from 1978 Im Every Woman with her mom. Then, she performed backing vocals to Jermaine Jackson and Lou Rawls as well as her mom. The high quality of her performance as the lead vocalist in New York funk group Material was noticed by big record companies, like Arista who she was signed in 1982, and stayed the rest of her career. Whitney Houston, her debut album, released in 1985 was the most-sold album by an unproven singer. My Love was her debut album. My Love was released in 1985 and became a number one hit. The album sold US 3,000,000 copies and then increased to 25 million worldwide. This gave her the first of the six Grammy Awards she has won. The Whitney album followed in 1987 and the singles What Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to further build upon the success of her first album. However, it was, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard that solidified her standing as one of the most popular performers. Although the film and the actor's performance weren't much praised, her soundtrack album that featured her interpretation of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You was her top album and single for a number of months. It sold more than 44 million copies worldwide. The same year, she got married to Bobby Brown who was a ex- New Edition singer. She had their sole daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. They were married on March 23, 1993. In 1996, her consumption of the drug was well-documented.
Dana Bash is also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz and she is employed by CNN as anchorwoman, reporter and political correspondent.
